In the Heart of Negros Oriental: A Family’s Struggle
In the remote mountains of Negros Oriental, Philippines, a family faces one of life's most difficult challenges. Since January 2023, Hermenio has been battling serious health conditions with limited resources and access to care. His journey is one of resilience, hardship, and an urgent need for support.
A Devastating Diagnosis
Early in 2023, Hermenio received life-changing news: high blood pressure and a brain tumor. For any family, such a diagnosis would be overwhelming. However, for Hermenio’s family in the mountainous region of Negros Oriental, the obstacles seemed insurmountable.
Doctors recommended that Hermenio travel to Cebu for a critical operation. However, the financial burden of transportation, medical procedures, and accommodation made this impossible. The family, already struggling to meet basic needs, simply could not afford the care he desperately required.
Deteriorating Conditions
As months passed without the recommended operation, Hermenio's condition steadily worsened. Seizures became more frequent, bringing immense suffering and fear to both him and his loved ones.
A local doctor prescribed maintenance medication to manage his symptoms, but even this temporary solution posed financial difficulties. Unable to afford the full regimen of three doses per day, the family has been forced to ration his medication to just once daily—far below the therapeutic level needed for effective management.
Impact on the Family
Hermenio’s illness has deeply affected his entire family. Once a self-sufficient household, they now struggle with the physical and emotional demands of caregiving. Family members must juggle their own responsibilities while ensuring Hermenio receives the attention he needs. The emotional toll is just as severe as the financial strain, as they watch a loved one suffer without the means to provide the necessary medical care.
A Call for Support
Hermenio’s story is not unique. It reflects the harsh realities faced by many families in remote areas of the Philippines, where geographic isolation and financial hardships create significant barriers to healthcare. Without immediate assistance, his condition will continue to decline.
We Care W.A has stepped in to ask how we can help—and we have honored their wishes. Committed to making a difference in this region, We Care W.A believes that even small steps can lead to meaningful change.
By coming together, we can bridge the gap between what Hermenio needs and what his family can provide. Every act of kindness, every bit of support, brings hope to those who need it most.
