Health Challenges in Rural Philippines
Help in the Philippines
In times of hardship, a helping hand can make all the difference. My name is Ginalyn Palagtiw, and I am honoured to be part of We Care W.A., an organisation dedicated to providing aid to those in need, one case at a time. Based in Lamogong, Manjuyod, Negros Oriental, Philippines, our mission is to extend support to individuals and families facing significant challenges, including those in remote mountainous regions where resources are scarce.
A Tragic Loss and an Urgent Need
In October 2023, I encountered a heartbreaking case requiring immediate attention. Jonas, a 38-year-old widower, had just lost his wife in a tragic childbirth incident. Due to financial constraints, the couple opted for a home birth, unaware of the complications that would arise. Unfortunately, Jonas' wife was considered high-risk, and without the necessary medical care, she did not survive. Further complications with the placenta led to a severe infection, adding to the devastation of this already tragic loss. Jonas is now left to care for their five young children, including a newborn. With four other children under the age of 10, he faces an overwhelming challenge—grieving his wife while also struggling to provide for his family.
How We Care W.A Stepped In
Understanding the urgency of the situation, I reached out to We Care W.A, and the response was immediate. Without hesitation, the organisation provided crucial assistance, ensuring that Jonas and his children had the basic necessities to sustain them during this difficult time. We delivered two months’ worth of rice, baby formula, diapers, and other essential supplies. Furthermore, we pledged to continue supporting the family until the baby is older, allowing Jonas to focus on rebuilding his life without the added burden of financial distress.
A Commitment to Care
At We Care W.A, we believe that no one should face hardship alone. Our commitment to Jonas and his children extends beyond material assistance—we offer hope, compassion, and reassurance that they are not forgotten. In the face of unimaginable loss, our goal is to bring comfort and stability to this grieving family.
Stories like Jonas’ remind us of the power of community and kindness. Through our collective efforts, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most. If you are inspired to contribute or support our mission, we welcome any form of assistance, whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness about our cause.
Together, we can uplift those in need and ensure no family is left behind.
